Audio/Video Receivers

At the heart of any home theater is the audio/video receiver or “AVR”. The AVR is the central hub for all the components in the system and is also in charge of making sure that the right signals go to the right places. Without an AVR in place, your home theater will not function! For example, it receives the audio and video signals from your Blu-ray DVD player and sends the video portion to your TV or projector and sends the audio signals to the speakers and subwoofer. This is only the tip of the iceberg to consider when buying a home theater receiver. The key area’s that will help you choose which receiver is right for you are the size of your room, the quality of your speakers, and the type and number of sources you want to plug in. Our knowledgeable staff can help answer your questions when it comes to choosing the right AVR.

Integrated AVR or Separates?

There are currently two main types of AVR’s to choose from. An integrated AVR is an audio/video receiver with a multi-channel amplifier for your speakers built into the chassis. AVR separates are just as they sound, one component acts as the audio/video receiver or pre-amp, the second component houses the multi-channel amplifier. For most people, an integrated AVR is a fine solution and will house more than enough power to easily and efficiently power your speakers. For those looking for a more audiophile experience, separates may be a better solution.
